Seamless integration with Chargebee Chargebee

How to report MRR, churn and LTV from Chargebee

Connect Chargebee to Baremetrics with a read-only API key and your Chargebee site name. Baremetrics turns your Chargebee subscriptions into MRR, ARR, churn, LTV and dozens of other subscription metrics, and can combine them with Stripe, Braintree, Recurly, Apple and Google revenue in one dashboard.

What you get when you connect Chargebee

Baremetrics sits on top of Chargebee as the analytics layer. Chargebee keeps running your billing; Baremetrics reports on it:

  • MRR and ARR based on what customers actually pay, after discounts and coupons.
  • Customer and revenue churn, reflected as soon as a subscription is cancelled.
  • LTV, ARPU, upgrades and downgrades, with segmentation to compare plans and customer groups.
  • One view across billing systems: add Stripe, Braintree, Recurly, App Store or Google Play data from the same Data Connections page.
  • Revenue forecasting built on the same numbers, with Forecast+.

How does the Chargebee connection work?

  1. Create a Read-Only: All API key in Chargebee. Chargebee's guide explains how: How to create API keys.
  2. Note your Chargebee site subdomain, for example yourcompany.chargebee.com.
  3. In Baremetrics, open Settings, then Data Connections, choose Chargebee and enter the key and subdomain.
  4. Check your product catalog version. Baremetrics syncs with Chargebee Product Catalog 2.0 by default. If you're on Product Catalog 1.0, contact the Baremetrics success team and they'll enable it for your account.
  5. Add your other sources with Add Connection on the same page, if you bill through more than one system.

What are the limits of the Chargebee integration?

  • MRR can differ from Chargebee's own figures. Baremetrics reflects the amount the customer actually paid; some platforms show the original plan amount before discounts.
  • Cancellations count immediately. If you cancel customers at the end of their paid term and want them kept active until then, ask support to enable it for your account.
  • Paused subscriptions are not active. Only customers who are actively paying count in MRR and customer totals.
  • Product Catalog 1.0 needs a manual switch by the success team; 2.0 is the default.
  • Combined sources blend together. When you add other billing sources, not every graph can be broken out by individual source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Baremetrics connects directly to Chargebee and reports MRR, ARR, customer and revenue churn, LTV, ARPU, upgrades and downgrades from your Chargebee subscriptions. It works as the analytics layer on top of Chargebee, so billing stays where it is, and it can combine Chargebee with Stripe, Braintree, Recurly, Apple and Google revenue.

Create a Read-Only: All API key in Chargebee, then in Baremetrics go to Settings, Data Connections, choose Chargebee and enter the key with your Chargebee site subdomain, such as yourcompany.chargebee.com.

Usually because of discounts and coupons. Baremetrics reflects the amount the customer actually paid, while some platforms show the original plan amount before discounts. Cancellations also leave MRR as soon as they happen in Baremetrics, unless support enables end-of-term cancellations for your account.

Yes. Baremetrics syncs with Product Catalog 2.0 by default. If you use Product Catalog 1.0, contact the Baremetrics success team and they will enable it for your account.

Yes. After your first source is connected, use Add Connection on the Data Connections page to bring in Stripe, Braintree, Recurly or other sources. Their data is combined into one set of metrics, although not every graph can be broken out by individual source.

Paused subscriptions are not counted as active, so they are excluded from MRR and customer counts. Cancelled subscriptions are reflected immediately, which gives a faster view of churn.
