How to get MRR and churn analytics for Recurly subscriptions
Connect Recurly to Baremetrics with a private API key and a webhook. Baremetrics imports your Recurly subscriptions and turns them into MRR, ARR, customer and revenue churn, LTV and dozens of other subscription metrics in one dashboard, with no spreadsheets or code.
What you get when you connect Recurly
Recurly keeps running your billing. Baremetrics sits on top of it as the analytics layer and reports on your Recurly subscriptions:
- MRR and ARR calculated from your Recurly subscriptions.
- Customer and revenue churn, with upgrades, downgrades and reactivations, so you can see what is driving MRR up or down.
- LTV and ARPU, with segmentation to compare plans and customer groups.
- One view across billing systems: add Stripe, Braintree or other sources from the same Data Connections page.
- Failed-payment follow-up with Recover. Recover sends the customer follow-up for failed Recurly payments: an email sequence (7 emails by default), SMS, in-app banners and paywalls, plus a hosted card-update form that saves the new card back to Recurly. Payment retries stay with Recurly. Recover needs an API key with write access.

How does the Recurly connection work?
- Create a private API key for Baremetrics. In Recurly, open the API Credentials page and click Add Private API Key. A key used only by Baremetrics is easier to control.
- Choose the key's access. If you plan to use Recover, don't make the key read-only: Recover needs write access to your Recurly account.
- Add Recurly in Baremetrics as a data connection and enter the key.
- Set up the webhook. In Recurly, open Webhooks, choose Configure, then New Endpoint. Enter the endpoint URL, username and password that Baremetrics gives you during setup, and save.
- Stay up to date. Metrics update on average every 2 hours.

What are the limits of the Recurly integration?
- Setup takes two steps in Recurly: a private API key and a webhook endpoint. There is no one-click sign-in.
- A read-only key covers analytics, not Recover. Recover needs a key with write access to your Recurly account.
- Metrics are not instant. They update on average every 2 hours, and can take a few hours longer if Recurly's API is slow.
- Combined sources blend together. When you add other billing sources, not every graph can be broken out by individual source.

Only if you use Recover. A read-only private API key is enough for analytics. Recover needs write access, so if you plan to use it, don't make the key read-only.
Yes. Recover sends the customer follow-up for failed Recurly payments: an email sequence (7 emails by default), SMS, in-app banners and paywalls, plus a hosted card-update form that saves the new card back to Recurly. Payment retries stay with Recurly. Recover needs an API key with write access.
Yes. After your first source is connected, use Add Connection on the Data Connections page to bring in Stripe, Braintree or other sources. Their data is combined into one set of metrics, although not every graph can be broken out by individual source.
On average, metrics update every 2 hours. Delays of a few hours can happen, for example when Recurly's API is slow. The webhook you set up during connection lets Baremetrics know about new Recurly activity.
