Baremetrics + Recurly
Overview
Recurly runs your billing. Baremetrics connects to it with a private API key and a webhook, and brings your Recurly subscriptions together with the other tools you already use, like Stripe, QuickBooks and HubSpot. From one set of numbers, you can track growth, win back failed payments, see why customers cancel and plan what's next.
What Baremetrics does with your Recurly data
- Unifies your billing. Combine Recurly with Stripe, Braintree, Chargebee, App Store or Google Play revenue, and get one set of metrics instead of a tab per tool.
- Tracks growth. MRR, ARR, customer and revenue churn, upgrades, downgrades and reactivations, LTV and ARPU, with segmentation to compare plans and customer groups.
- Recovers failed payments. Recover sends the customer follow-up for failed Recurly payments: an email sequence (7 emails by default), SMS, in-app banners and paywalls, plus a hosted card-update form that saves the new card back to Recurly. Payment retries stay with Recurly. Recover needs an API key with write access.
- Shows why customers cancel. Cancellation Insights collects cancellation reasons, shows how much revenue each one costs you, and helps you save customers with retention offers.
- Plans cash flow. Add QuickBooks Online or Xero, and Forecast+ projects revenue and expenses from the same numbers.
- Puts revenue where your team works. Sync revenue data to HubSpot contacts, send alerts to Slack, or ask AI assistants about your metrics through the Baremetrics MCP.

How does the Recurly connection work?
- Create a private API key for Baremetrics. In Recurly, open the API Credentials page and click Add Private API Key. A key used only by Baremetrics is easier to control.
- Choose the key's access. If you plan to use Recover, don't make the key read-only: Recover needs write access to your Recurly account.
- Add Recurly in Baremetrics as a data connection and enter the key.
- Set up the webhook. In Recurly, open Webhooks, choose Configure, then New Endpoint. Enter the endpoint URL, username and password that Baremetrics gives you during setup, and save.
- Stay up to date. Metrics update on average every 2 hours.

What are the limits of the Recurly integration?
- Setup takes two steps in Recurly: a private API key and a webhook endpoint. There is no one-click sign-in.
- A read-only key covers analytics, not Recover. Recover needs a key with write access to your Recurly account.
- Metrics are not instant. They update on average every 2 hours, and can take a few hours longer if Recurly's API is slow.
- Combined sources blend together. When you add other billing sources, not every graph can be broken out by individual source.

Questions
How can I get MRR and churn analytics for Recurly subscriptions?+−
Connect Recurly to Baremetrics with a private API key and a webhook. Baremetrics imports your Recurly subscriptions and reports MRR, ARR, customer and revenue churn, LTV, ARPU, upgrades, downgrades and reactivations in one dashboard. Billing stays in Recurly; Baremetrics is the analytics layer on top.
How do I connect Recurly to Baremetrics?+−
In Recurly, open API Credentials and click Add Private API Key. Add Recurly as a data connection in Baremetrics and enter the key. Then, in Recurly, open Webhooks, choose Configure and New Endpoint, and enter the endpoint URL, username and password that Baremetrics gives you during setup.
Does Baremetrics need write access to my Recurly account?+−
Only if you use Recover. A read-only private API key is enough for analytics. Recover needs write access, so if you plan to use it, don't make the key read-only.
Does Recover work with Recurly?+−
Yes. Recover sends the customer follow-up for failed Recurly payments: an email sequence (7 emails by default), SMS, in-app banners and paywalls, plus a hosted card-update form that saves the new card back to Recurly. Payment retries stay with Recurly. Recover needs an API key with write access.
Can Baremetrics show why my Recurly customers cancel?+−
Yes. Cancellation Insights works with Recurly. It collects each customer's reason for cancelling, shows the revenue lost to each reason, and lets you offer retention deals before they go.
Can I combine Recurly with Stripe or other billing data?+−
Yes. After your first source is connected, use Add Connection on the Data Connections page to bring in Stripe, Braintree or other sources. Their data is combined into one set of metrics, although not every graph can be broken out by individual source.
How often does Recurly data update in Baremetrics?+−
On average, metrics update every 2 hours. Delays of a few hours can happen, for example when Recurly's API is slow. The webhook you set up during connection lets Baremetrics know about new Recurly activity.
